When to Call 911

Dial 911 to report emergency incidents within Forsyth County including:
  • Medical emergency
  • Fire
  • Motor vehicle crash
  • Suspicious vehicle 
  • To report road hazards, wires down, drunk drivers or reckless drivers
  • To report any in-progress incidents such as auto theft, burglary, arson, assault, robbery, shoplifting, disturbance, theft, domestic violence, fight, missing person, shooting, stabbing, destruction of property and all crimes that have just occurred.
If you are unsure your situation is an emergency, call 911.

When to call the non-emergency number 770-781-3087:
  • To report non-urgent incidents that require law enforcement response such as loud music, lost wallets, lost cell phones, non-violent animal complaints.
  • To report incidents that are not in progress but for which a report is needed.

Tips for when calling 911:
  • Remain calm
  • Listen to all questions
  • Answer all questions
  • Provide exact location of emergency
  • Speak clearly
  • Never place yourself in danger in order to obtain information 

When calling 911 from a cell phone:
  • Providing an accurate location is critical (exact street number, street name and, if possible, nearest intersection or landmark).
  • Do not hang up until your call is answered, even if the call was accidental.
  • If safe to do so, leave your cell phone turned on in case there is a need to call you back.
  • Make sure you know your cell phone number.
